About Julems

Julems as a brand name is a compilation of the artist's name, Judith Lemmens. And that would be me, hi there! First of all, thank you for visiting my webshop.

Here's a little bit about me. I was born and raised in a small town in the Netherlands. I went to Lucas School for Design, where I met my husband Remon back in 1995. I worked as an interior designer mostly for Ikea for about 8 years until our first child was born in 2004. At that point I switched to graphic design and illustration which allowed me to be home with the kids. In 2008 we got the opportunity to move to California with our kids, being 2 and 4 years old at the time, and we grabbed it. Adventure was our main drive.

Late 2014 I discovered ceramics, and I loved the hands-on creating part of it, the diversity of design choices, the possibilities and limits every step of the process. I have had many creative outlets over the years, but this one really clicked with me. I took some classes and was able to set up my own studio a year later. In 2016 I had my first art show at the Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival, and was rewarded an Certificate of Excellence, which was a huge confidence boost. I've been moving forward ever since and am excited to spend my days in my home studio, pouring my heart and soul into my creations.

My style is clean and fresh, and ranges from subtle to more bold looks. I try to stay true to my aesthetic of keeping designs simple in shape, color and graphics. Many see the influence of Dutch Design and Scandinavian Design in my work. I like to play with shapes and negative space, finding balance between contour and design, form and decoration.
I'm inspired by graphic and pattern design, geometrics and elements of nature. Often when a theme is emerging, I like to create different variations on that design, making each piece unique on its own and harmonious in a group.

I hope you enjoy looking at my work, please let me know if you have any questions! Make sure to sign up for the newsletter if you would like to be updated once in a while.

Xo,

Judith
